The Berber tent, also called khaima, is the nomads' shelter. With its large deck in goat or camel wool, and walls made with lighter wool, or cotton fabric, it protects from cold, sand winds and rain. It rests on a large plank attached to the two central pillars, and can be wide enough to host a small family. When the weather is really hot, the walls can be removed for maximum air circulation.

Our campsites
Our campsites have improved these traditions for a better comfort. Tents are still made of traditionnal materials, and are bought to the nomads, who still porduce them, but they are smaller and higher than the originals. More important, they are set in a circle, in order to provide a camp center protected from the wind where you can enjoy the night. Our camps have only a few tents, and you can enjoy the desert's quietness.
At the heart of the dunes, you are in the best place to admire a spectacular sunrise or sunset.
Outside of the circle of tents, there are cabins for the toilets.
Departure takes place at the end of the afternoon, around two to three hours before sunset, so that you have plenty of time to go there by camel and enjoy it. You can leave your luggage at the hotel and take only what is necessary for the night.
Once you have reached the tents, after a one hour and a half camel tour through the dune of erg Chebbi, you can climb on the summot of the dune and enjoy the sunset. At the same time, we prepare your dinner, moroccan tea, grilled meat and fruits. The firecamp is the perfect place to spend the night, and more than often, camel drivers will make a spontaneous band, a tea glass on a metal tray is enough to beat the rythm.
You wake up very early to enjoy the colors of the sunrise, different but as awesome as sunset. On the sand, you can spot the traces of the nightly activity, gerbils and fenec foxes. And after breakfast and warm mint tea, you come back to Palais des Dunes, where you can take a hot shower before getting back your luggage.
